Barbara Farber is President of Leikin Group Inc., a privately owned company focused on real estate development and property and asset management. Her professional career has been linked with many volunteer positions in both the Jewish community and the community at large.
Barbara was the National President of United Israel Appeal Federations Canada, Vice Chair of the National Board of Canada-Israel Committee, first and founding Chair of the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation, first and founding Chair of Algonquin College Foundation Board, member of the Ottawa Police Services Board, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Ottawa International Airport Authority, the University of Ottawa’s Heart Institute Foundation Board, and co-chair of Women’s Heart Health, as well as just completing a number of years as a Governor on the Algonquin College Board. Barbara was an appointed member of the National Capital Commission Mandate Review Panel which studied the operations of the NCC and made recommendations to Parliament for consideration in 2007.
She was awarded an Algonquin College Honourary Degree in 2009, the Gilbert Greenberg Distinguished Service Award presented by the Ottawa Jewish Community, the Ottawa Philanthropy Award for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraising, and 2010 Business Woman of the Year Award by Consumers’ Choice Awards, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal among other honours.
