The Ottawa Community Foundation is excited to announce the addition of three remarkable volunteers to its Board of Directors: Allan Reesor-McDowell, Dianne Urquhart, and Paul Jenkins. At the same time, the organization extends its heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to Tom Valks, Cyril Leeder, and Carol Devenny as they embark on new journeys.
The OCF acknowledges the important roles of the Governance Committee and Nominating Committee, which appoints individuals to the Board,
“Our new board members bring a wealth of experience, vision, and dedication that will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts,” said OCF President and CEO Michael Maidment. “Their diversity of experience and commitment to public service align perfectly with our mission to foster a thriving Ottawa community.”
Allan Reesor-McDowell brings a unique perspective and a service-centred approach to leadership. As Executive Director of Matthew House Ottawa, Allan has demonstrated a commitment to providing critical support to homeless asylum seekers. His experience and leadership roles in various organizations, including the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa, underscore his dedication to addressing complex social issues. Allan will be a tremendous asset as we work to focus our impact on Ottawa. His on-the-ground role in community service provides a valuable perspective into the challenges faced by those we aim to support.
Dianne Urquhart joins us with an impressive 40-year career dedicated to equity and community development. As the Executive Director of the Therapeutic Riding Association of Ottawa-Carleton—following a 20-year tenure as head of the Social Planning Council of Ottawa—Dianne has consistently championed initiatives that support vulnerable populations. Her extensive experience in community-based research and policy development will be instrumental in driving our efforts to create inclusive and supportive community environments. Dianne’s commitment to social justice and her deep understanding of community needs will guide our initiatives in fostering well-being across Ottawa.
Paul Jenkins, with his extensive background in central banking, international macroeconomics, and financial stability, will provide invaluable strategic insights. As the former Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada, Paul’s expertise in governance and strategic planning will be crucial as we navigate the complexities of today’s charitable and economic landscape. His experience will help us execute our financial strategies, ensuring that we can continue to support impactful community initiatives across Ottawa. No stranger to the OCF, Paul has served as a valuable member of the OCF’s Investment Committee since 2017 and will now chair the committee.
“We are excited about the fresh perspectives and expertise that Allan, Dianne, and Paul bring to our board,” said Grant Jameson, Board Chair of the Ottawa Community Foundation. “Their collective experience and passion for community service will be instrumental in guiding our mission forward.”
As the organization welcomes Allan, Dianne, and Paul, we also bid a fond farewell to Tom Valks, Cyril Leeder, and Carol Devenny. Tom, who served as Chair of our Investment Committee, was crucial in managing our assets. Cyril contributed his expertise to the Finance and Audit Committee. And Carol served as board chair and past chair, providing exceptional leadership and guidance
“Tom, Cyril, and Carol have been integral to our success, and their contributions will have a lasting impact,” Maidment added. “We are grateful for their service and wish them all the best.”
