The need for shelter and affordable housing continues to grow rapidly in Ottawa. In January 2020, Ottawa became the first city in Canada to declare a housing and homelessness emergency when city council passed a unanimous motion as it addressed the concerning issue. The Housing and Homelessness Fund supports work being done in this sector to make a systemic change and address key issues.
