This scholarship is awarded to a student graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Stittsville, Ontario, who has overcome adversity and is intending to continue into further education. The student receiving the award will have demonstrated resilience by exercising values of leadership, compassion, and integrity in an academic setting while overcoming personal difficulties.
As a teacher, Richard was always committed to students and families that were experiencing difficulty outside of school—he admired and worked with these students. Often, in a large school, the added challenges facing these students may be overlooked; this award seeks to recognize their achievement with the help of conscientious teachers such as Richard. The intent is to seek donations to build upon an initial donation from Richard’s family. As the fund grows, so will the value of the annual award thereby assuring a self-sustaining supportive memorial to Richard’s life. Endowed donations support the award in perpetuity.
