Maurice F. (“Maury”) Prevost established this fund in 2021 to support social services in the City of Ottawa, where he has lived longer than anywhere else in his life, and to assist and promote the arts and cultural activities of all kinds locally and nationally. He especially loves music and learned to play the clarinet in the Ottawa New Horizons Band program following his second retirement in 2015.
The fund consolidates and continues his long-standing philanthropic interests, shared with his late wife Marilyn (nee Greer), who died in 2019. Marilyn grew up in North Gower and lived in the Ottawa area for the majority of her life.
After growing up in West Vancouver, BC, Maurice first came to Ottawa in 1973 to work in software development at Bell-Northern Research. He married Marilyn in 1975. He continued to work for BNR and Nortel until taking an early retirement at the end of 2004. During this first career, Maurice and Marilyn also lived in Durham, North Carolina and in the western suburbs of Paris, France. Subsequent to his first retirement, Maurice had a second career in fundraising, firstly at The Ottawa Mission, but mostly at the University of Ottawa 2008-2015.
