Healthy Children Nutrition Fund

Reducing Food Insecurity One Nourishing Meal at a Time

1 in four children in Ottawa live in a foodinsecure household and do not have access to adequate nutrition; many of these children skip a meal on a regular basis, some even daily. This lack of nutrition adversely impacts their ability to focus, learn and academic achievement. Inadequate nutrition during childhood can lead to long-term health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and other chronic conditions.

With a vision of enhancing community health and fostering a culture of wellness by providing healthy, nutritious, and culturally appropriate meals to all children and youth across the city, Nutrition Blocs set up this fund to raise resources to support charitable organizations in partnership with our School Lunch and After-School Dinner Programs.

The School Lunch and After-School Dinner programs serve fresh and nutritious meals to 400 children every day. During the summer, fresh breakfast and lunch are provided to 600 children each day. The programs provide over 100,000 meals each academic year.
