Writers Collective of Canada (WCC) is a charitable organization that inspires exploratory writing in community to empower every voice, celebrate every story, and change the world. Since 2020, over 35 WCC certified volunteer facilitators have led workshops in partnership with more than dozen organizations in Ottawa, positively impacting the homeless, people in recovery from addiction, with mental health challenges, in conflict with the law, differently abled, youth at risk, abused women, seniors, veterans, caregivers, and the Indigenous, Immigrant, Refugee and LGBTQ2S+ communities.
The Ottawa Community Foundation has provided funding to continue WCC’s work in Ottawa in training volunteers, and developing workshops alongside local host organizations. The following is a testimonial from Carrie Anne Hamilton, Chair of Mood Disorders Ottawa.
