Rebecca Aird is the Foundation’s Director of Community Engagement. She manages the Foundation’s Community Grants Program and the New Leaf Community Challenge. She also plays a convening and partnership development role when opportunities arise to build local cross-sectoral engagement and action on key issues such as youth employment, food security, and affordable market housing and carbon emissions reduction. When she joined the Foundation in early 2015, she was asked to develop an online knowledge center, which became Ottawa Insights. Rebecca’s career prior to joining the Foundation was focused on advancing environmental sustainability. She worked across the private, public and social-profit sectors and at local, national and international levels in areas such as policy development and analysis, project management, evaluation, and facilitation. As a volunteer, she has played a founding role in numerous organizations and projects related to community-based sustainability. Rebecca gets energized by her marvelous family and community, and by nature, in all its manifestations—even the four-meter caiman she recently encountered in the Amazon.
