This fund was established to sustain, enhance, and conserve urban and rural natural areas within Ottawa through support of greenspace initiatives for the benefit of nature, the community, and generations to come.

Like many great cities, Ottawa is defined by its abundant green spaces and historic waterways. Greenspace also occurs on smaller scales; e.g. urban parks, commercial and institutional land, school grounds, and along roadways. We cannot take these spaces for granted; they face challenges from population growth, densification, and climate change.

Using a First Nation’s concept of working for the benefit of seven generations in the future, this fund will support the growth, enhancement, and maintenance of a network of natural landscapes to provide ecosystem services, improve climate change resiliency, provide wildlife habitats, support biodiversity, and provide spaces for physical and mental well being.
