Ottawa Community Foundation wins three Awards for Excellence in Communications

The Ottawa Community Foundation has been named a triple-award winner for excellence in communications by the 2011 Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program. Sponsored by the international Council on Foundations, the awards program recognizes effective communications efforts to increase public awareness of foundations and corporate giving programs. The Ottawa Community Foundation received the top award in its category for the 2009 online Annual Report, along with silver and bronze awards, respectively, for its new “Donors’ Advantage” newsletter and the 2010 Ottawa’s Vital Signs report.

“It is an extraordinary honour to be recognized in this way by such a prestigious international organization,” said Barbara McInnes, President & CEO of the Ottawa Community Foundation, “and it is especially rewarding to win for all three of the publications we submitted last year.” Described as “beautiful, simple, accessible, progressive and eco-friendly,” the 2009 Annual Report was singled out as an outstanding achievement by the Foundation. The fifth Ottawa’s Vital Signs report was cited as “very powerful…and a very important tool for engaging donors, grantees and partners in identifying the need of the community.” The new “Donors’ Advantage” newsletter was praised for being “succinct, straightforward, engaging and elegant” and for its effective dual-platform format allowing it to serve the Foundation’s entire donor audience.

Entries to the awards program included annual or biennial reports, electronic publications, newsletters, special reports, public policy campaigns and websites. This year, 150 entries were submitted to the awards program. The awards will be presented during the Council on Foundations’ Annual Conference, April 10—12, 2011, at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107.

Established in 1987, the Ottawa Community Foundation is a public, non-profit organization created by and for the people of Ottawa. It connects donors who care with causes that matter and serves as a trusted resource for addressing issues and leveraging opportunities in the community. Since its inception, the Community Foundation has been enabling generous citizens to enhance the quality of life in their community and to achieve their own charitable objectives through permanent, well-managed endowments.
