Dear Friends and Family,

We are pleased to tell you that the 4th annual Phil Everson Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to a graduating student of St. Lawrence Secondary School in Cornwall, Ont. This scholarship was initiated after Phil Everson, a former St. Lawrence student, died suddenly after completing the Ottawa Army Run in September of 2019. It was always Phil’s intention to give back to St. Lawrence S.S. in some way. Because of the generosity of many donors like yourself, Phil’s intention has become reality and this year the fund was able to generate a $2469.00 scholarship.

The 2023 Phil Everson Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Nico Fourkiotis. Nico graduated with a Red Seal in Health & Wellness, his Immersion Certificate, and is an Ontario Scholar.

Nico is the Company Sergeant Major for the SD&G Royal Canadian Army Cadets where he takes an active role in teaching young cadets. He is the proud winner of the Lord Strathcona medal which recognizes exemplary performance in physical and military training. Nico is an active member of St. John’s Presbyterian church, volunteers with community clean-ups and has been recognized by his school as Sportsman of the Year for his leadership abilities and willingness to help others.

Nico lost his father at a young age and has been raised by his mother along with his 3 siblings. He is a model big brother with a heart of gold, has demonstrated resiliency and responsibility time and again, dedicating himself to anything he does wholeheartedly, all while overcoming life’s challenges.

Nico plans to pursue a career in medicine and wishes to return to Cornwall to start up his own practice as either a General

Practitioner or a Pediatrician.

Thank you again for being a part of a wonderful community of donors. You have made a significant investment in our youth and have helped Nico pursue his post-secondary studies.

With gratitude,
