James Wightman (Jim) was an avid Ottawan. He loved the National Capital for its arts, sports, major events, local culture, and politics. Born in Ottawa, he graduated from Carleton (BA – Mathematics), worked for IBM – Ottawa, and retired here.  Jim was forward-looking and well-versed in politics, ideas, music, business, and local theatre.  He cared deeply about Ottawa.

The James Wightman Fund was established to respond to requests for support from the community. Annual earnings from this fund go to the larger Ottawa Community Foundation’s unrestricted pool to which various donors contribute. Examples of supported projects include: arts in underserved neighbourhoods, breakfast programs, youth entrepreneurship and employment, ecology development in Ottawa, and so much more.

The fund has a far-reaching impact in Ottawa, something that was important to Jim as a meaningful legacy.
