Steve founded Green Resilience Strategies in 2017. From 1998-2016 he served as a  Director at the Center for Clean Air Policy where he developed and led influential programs on Transportation and Urban Climate Adaptation raising $20 million for their implementation.

Steve has provided expert testimony to four U.S. Congressional committees and has authored numerous publications. HIs work has been covered by media outlets such as: the Atlantic, ClimateWire, CNN, E&E TV, Grist, Huffington Post, Montreal Gazette, National Geographic, National Journal, New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.  Steve was a founding member of the US National Academy of Sciences’ Transportation Research Board Special Task Force on Climate Change.

Some highlights:

  • Instrumental in founding a national institution on transit oriented development in Colombia.
  • Co-author of two books: Growing Cooler and Growing Wealthier, which put urban planning on the climate policy map and increased policymaker support for smart growth due to climate, economic and quality of life benefits.
  • Invited by Al Gore to present to him on transport and climate change.
  • Policy recommendations included in US Federal legislation on climate change and resilience.
  • Led initiatives helping cities and companies launch and advance their climate adaptation efforts.
  • Popularized the “Ask the Climate Question” framing to inform policy and investment decisions.
  • Introduced the term “Green Resilience” to advance climate adaptation + mitigation synergies.
